The "8th International Olive Oil Award - Zurich 2009" is finished. In March 2009 for the eighth time the sensory evaluation of extra virgin olive oils took place at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) in Waedenswil. 130 Olive Oils from 14 different countries participated in the competition (Info). For 124 of these oils the category "extra virgin" could be confirmed by the Swiss Olive Oil Panel (SOP) of ZHAW. Detailled information is available in the List of "extra virgin" Olive Oils of the IOOA 2009. The SOP did the evaluation according to objective criteria. Please see detailed information concerning the test procedure and eligibility requirements within the due regulations 2009

What happened during the oliveoil season 2008/2009?

IOOA 09

All registered oils took part in two events and had “twice the chance” of gaining an award. Both events were organized and accomplished by the University of Applied Sciences Zurich (ZHAW) in Waedenswil. Our media- and communication-partner were the editors of "Salz & Pfeffer" (Swiss journal for catering and gastronomy).

The objective selection of sensorically excellent “extra virgin” olive oils was finished in the context of the „8th International Olive Oil Award – Zurich 2009". The tastings took place in March 2009 by the Swiss Olive Oil Panel (SOP) of the ZHAW, that has been accredited since October 2006 according to ISO 17025 (STS 240; www.degu.ch). The members of the SOP are constantly trained in accordance to the regulations of the International Olive Oil Council (IOC). Therefore the neutral and objective evaluation of the participating olive oils was ensured.

Again this year, there was the possibility to have the Olive Oils being chemically analyzed  (4 parameters) for a special package-price.

The conditions of participation in the „8th International Olive Oil Award - Zurich 2009“ and the “Olio 2009" are available in the enclosed due Regulations 2009.
